Death Guard Terminators assembled

Yes, indeed, I have finally constructed my Death Guard terminators.

All hail the Rotten Lord and such claptrap.

I've used the plastic Chaos Terminator kit (although I did remove some of the rubbishier looking spiky bits) as the basis for these, with the addition of the Forge World Death Guard Terminators upgrade kit.

I've made some attempts at weathering and scarifying the armour plates using a drill.  I also gave one of them some kind of mental gribbly claw arm that I found in the local games club bits box.  It's a metal piece, and it's old. That's all I know. I swear.

The bases are from Forgecraft.

Here are some pictures.

Oh yes he does.

Strange appendage...

Nurgle Daemon Prince W.I.P part 3

So it seems I could be arsed to post these on the same very day.

The flesh has been roughly touched up with a blend of thinned out Vallejo off white & Formula P3 Thrall Flesh.

The green parts of the armour have been given a rough highlight of the mix above with added Knarloc green.

I'll be washing the miniature some more tomorrow...

Nurgle Daemon Prince W.I.P part 2

Not too much to say on this one...

The main plates on the armour have been done in a thin coat of Dheneb Stone, followed by a wash from my pot of filth. This was then given a brighter coat with a mix of Dheneb Stone and Vallejo Off White.

On the sword, the blade is done with Formula P3 Pig Iron, and the hilt & hand basket with Formula P3 Blighted Gold.

I've done a bit more on this since, and will post up the pics at some stage when I can be bothered.

Death Guard Marine #6 revisited

So after receiving some feedback on this guy's loin cloth in 2 previous separate incarnations, I've tried again...
Further hi-lights added in.

The picks are from 2 different angles as I  am trying to cancel out the powerful flash. Which I didn't manage to do that well.

This one is dedicated to you, Deadest Dai.

Nurgle Daemon Prince test piece W.I.P

I picked this model up off eBay a good while ago, when I was temporarily considering doing a Vampire Counts army for fantasy.  That never really got off the ground.  I eventually decided that using it in my Death Guard army might look, y'know, cool and that. At the same time. Or separately. I can't remember which...

Anyway, I thought I'd have a go at painting him up. On the base, I've added a weird plastic tree stump type thing that I found in the bottom of a box. I've expanded the tree roots using some bits of what I assume were Wood Elf dryad arms or some such (if you are there Tim, you may be able to remind me...).  The gaps have been filled with Vallejo plastic putty ( a product I can't recommend enough).

I also opted to not include that shite bat-lizard familiar thing that would normally be flapping about near his shoulder because it looks, well, ludicrous.

I started out by priming in black (by hand for some unknown reason).  This, once dry, was topped over with a heavy overbrush of thinned down Adeptus Battle grey.

From there I gave it a wash (the whole thing) with Devlan Mud.

Once dry, I applied a base coat of Knarloc Green (thinned down) to the armour. Formula P3 Pig Iron (didn't feel the need to thin this one down) to the chain mail areas and sword. Dheneb Stone (thinned down) to the flesh parts. If I remember rightly, the bits of leather and fur were done in Calthan Brown.  The cloak is done in  one of those new purples in the Citadel range. The darker one from the base coat range.  I think it's called Dark Eldar Bell-end or some such equally catchy title.  If you are that interested, you can probably look it up.

The whole thing was then given a liberal wash from my pot of filth. This consists of the dregs and dog ends of old pots of the citadel washes, namely Devlan Mud, Gryphonne Sepia and whatever the green one from the same range is called. It also has a bit of water in it (from the tap - nowt fancy, mind) as the dregs in the pots tended to be a bit thick from the pigments having sunk to the bottom.  That was a bit of a digression though.  So, anyway, the whole thing got a liberal wash with that, and this is how far I've got so far.

One thought I have had, though.  On this metal casting, the facial features aren't very strong, so I'm going to look at the finecast version to see if the casting quality is any better. If so, and I'm happy enough with the rest of this model, I reckon I'll redo him again from scratch on the finecast model. We'll see. I'm making no promises.

Chemical experimentation with dettol...

Recently, I read up on stripping metal and plastic miniatures with Dettol. People seem to say it works, so I thought I'd give it a go.  Dettol- check. Badly painted miniatures I inherited from my cousin - check.  Let the chemical warfare commence.

Plus points:
1. I found bottles of this shit in Poundland. For US readers, this is a shop where everything is £1. What a bargain. This place is where dreams are made.
2. It works. Very very well indeed.

Negative points:
This stuff is to be feared. Obviously if it strips paint off stuff, you don't want to drink it. Or get it on your skin. I was warned to wear gloves. So I did.  I found a pair of Marigolds (rubber household gloves as a reference point for non UK folks and those with a fear of household cleaning) in the cupboard below the kitchen sink. Those mothers are pretty thick, so I thought I'd risk those rather than trying out the thin latex type ones I use for spraying.

This may have been a daft decision in retrospect. Dettol seemingly dissolves rubber.  The surface of the gloves got messed up real quick. and melted all over the old toothbrushes I was using to clean the miniatures up.

As  you can see, resting atop an old piece of lemon and a tub of dip are a couple of toothbrushes all gunged up with melted rubber. Plus aforementioned gloves.

I think I've been lucky in that it didn't come through the gloves (I hope).  Apparently I won't know until a couple of days after. If my skin starts falling off painfully, it did get through.

Bearing this in mind, I'm going to have to look up what type of gloves won't dissolve in Dettol before I use this shit again.

If I suffer any ill effects, I'll report back.

Here's a video I found the other week on Youtube.

Word.

Death Guard predator W.I.P part 3...

I've been busy working on this for a while now.  Happy to say that it is nearly done.

Verdict on tank painting?  The base coating part is annoying, but after that it gets a bit better.

Still not fully convinced though. Ahem.

So here are some pictures of the nearly finished article.  Bear in mind that it does need some finishing off and tidying up.
